I had an excellent chance to film a demonstration of the dangers of vibration when shooting with a CMOS camera that exhibits the 'rolling shutter' effect. Notice the way the image shimmies a bit. The boat's big diesel engines are idling - a pleasing and relaxing effect for your feet, but not good for pictures if your camera is on a tripod.

I should point out you could SEE the camera vibrating, the screen wobbling. I don't think the image would have been usable if I'd shot on a CCD camera due to motion blur or shake. But this CMOS effect is very much a signature.
